The K&N KN-159 is a high-performance oil filter that is a bit of a "specialist." While most K&N filters you've looked at are spin-on canisters, the KN-159 is often a cartridge-style filter or a very specific slim canister depending on the regional cataloging, primarily serving the most modern, high-tech Ducati and Aprilia engines.

Key Specifications

  • Style: Cartridge (Internal) or specialized spin-on.

  • Media: High-flow premium synthetic blend media.

  • Height: ~5.06 in (129 mm) — notably taller/longer than the KN-153.

  • Outer Diameter: ~1.62 in (41 mm) — a much slimmer profile.

  • Anti-Drainback Valve: No (usually not required for this specific engine architecture).

  • Bypass Valve: Yes.


Critical Fitment: The "Superbike" Filter

The KN-159 is specifically required for Ducati's newer engine architectures, most notably the Panigale V4 and later V2 models.

  • Ducati Streetfighter V4 / V4S (2020–2026)

  • Ducati Panigale 1299 R / 959 (select late-model versions)

KN-153 vs. KN-159: What's the difference?

This is the most common point of confusion for Ducati owners.

Warning: These two are not interchangeable. The KN-159 is designed for the specific oil flow paths of the V4 Granturismo and Desmosedici Stradale engines. Using the wrong one will result in a physical fitment failure or, worse, oil starvation.


Performance Benefits

  • Synthetic Optimization: Built to handle the ultra-thin, high-performance synthetic oils (like Shell Advance or Motul 300V) typically used in Italian superbikes.
